Safer Care North East (SCNE) was launched in July 2008 as a key enabling strategy. It provides a focus on specific clinical safety issues and on the development of the safe culture, systems and processes which must underpin all effective pathways of care. There are 9 specific clinical safety themes:

  • Managing the Deteriorating Patient
  • Drug Safety
    • Anti-Coagulants
    • Insulin
    • Opiates
  • Healthcare Associated Infection
  • Suicide and Unexpected Death
  • Safe Surgical Procedures
  • Care Transfers, Handovers and Discharges (inter-disciplinary and inter-agency working)
  • Falls
  • Review and action on Outlying Mortality Rates
