North East Active Travel (NEAT)
NEAT
North East Active Travel (NEAT) is a unique partnership of health and transport agencies. It was established to address transport challenges on behalf of the Economy Culture and Environment Regional Advisory Group, which advises the Regional Director of Public Health on the delivery of the Better Health Fairer Health strategy. NEAT’s aim is to make the North East of England the most physically active region within a generation, with the majority of short urban journeys (under 5 miles) being made on foot or by bike. This will be achieved by:
• Developing proactive partnerships between health and transport bodies to focus on delivering practical and measurable active travel solutions
• Providing transport expertise to NHS organisations, and assisting Local Authority transport and planning departments, to prioritise modes of transport which maximise health benefits
• Coordinating the delivery of the NEAT Action Plan and working with a wide range of partners to raise the profile of active travel and its benefits across the region.
