Location: Wolfson Seminar Room

This event is aimed primarily at analysts throughout the Phine network, although other interested parties are very welcome.

NEPHO is a 'Safe Haven' for HES data. As such, we have access to both an online version of the database, which includes provisional monthly cuts of the data subsequent to the last full year; and a 10 year HES data extract, up to and including 2007/08 data, which includes some additional fields unavailable on the online system. We can provide bespoke tables of data to NHS bodies, and other external parties, subject to certain restrictions.

This session aims to provide an introduction to the HES database. We will talk about some of the most commonly used variables of the 100s available. This will give you an idea of the type of data you might like to consider analysing further, and an insight into how you can structure your data requests.

The second part of the session will cover some of the more complicated aspects of querying the database. For example: Do you want a count of Finished Consultant Episodes, or Admission Episodes? It will also cover topics such as linkage with other datasets, and dealing with small numbers.

There is no formal agenda; however the session will start at about 12pm with lunch. Presentations will start at 12.30pm and we will finish by 2pm.

Please let us know you will be attending by registering for this event.
