Cardiovascular Disease
Overview
Tackling cardiovascular disease is a key national and regional priority for improving health.
There are many population programmes, risk management and treatment strategies that can all make a contribution. Local and regional policy makers need to understand the relative significance of each, and how to maximise the contribution of individual interventions.
The short term focus for this group is assessing the potential of the national cardiovascular risk management programme (NHS Health Checks), the possible ways of identifying and managing risk.
The first contribution with is a process model for the Health Checks programme, based on one local implementation programme. The outcome of this work is a prototype model that is being used to assess local policy options and tactical planning.
It also now includes an assessment of the potential for improving life expectancy, building on the Health Inequalities toolkit, and links to relevant resources.
This group has been established to:
- support those undertaking technical work on tackling cardiovascular disease
- maximise its reach of this work to policy makers
- provide a resource for those working on cardiovascular disease and particularly for understanding the effects of interventions and evaluating success of programmes.
